Cappie and Alex Sprout stars of Building Outside the Lines on Magnolia Network

BUILD WEIRD.

Step into a world where creativity knows no bounds. Designer and builder Jared "Cappie" Capp and his daughter, Alex, transform ordinary, pre-existing structures into one-of-a-kind fantasy retreats. See them host Building Outside the Lines on the Magnolia Network.

Projects by Cappie and Alex

Cappie has been building his entire life, starting as a teenager, helping his Grandpa and Dad. After graduation, he joined the US Air Force and saw different building techniques around the world and was inspired to bring some of these ideas back to his hometown of Spearfish, South Dakota. Alex came into Cappie's life when she was six and immediately began to help him on the jobsite - being so small she had to roll down the window in his truck with her foot, because she couldn't reach it. Now, she is an integral part of the team, and they have built many projects together. If you have a project idea, they would love to hear about it!

Reviews from Building Outside the Lines, hosted by Cappie and Alex.

  • “Building Outside the Lines and into your heart! I found this home improvement show by accident on the MAX app and decided to let it play while I was falling asleep. Well, that was a mistake. Jared "Cappie" Capp and his 14 year old stepdaughter, nay, daughter, Alex (AKA Sprout) are quite the unstoppable pair. Chip and Joanna don't have anything on these two. You can see that Sprout loves being there to help and learn from Cappie, and that Cappie takes an immense amount of pride in the little girl he's helped raise. And the projects they do are incredible! In episode 3, they use the mixing drum from a concrete truck to make a bee themed playhouse for 4 children. It is incredible!! Overall this show is amazing. The builds are great and seeing a father/ teenage daughter duo is inspirational. I hope the powers that be keep this show going!”

  • "I love this show for many reasons. The relationship between Cappy and Sprout is phenomenal. The love and respect they have for each other is charming. The fact that Cappy has given Sprout the opportunity to develop so many skills that most boys wish they could have. Sprout shows her skills to help design projects and to also to help build them What a wonderful adventure for a young girl. This whole family is amazing and supportive . I look forward to every episode and will continue to watch each and everyone of them. Hope this show is on for a very long time."

  • I came across this accidentally on hulu. I love this father/ daughter duo. I love seeing this 14 year old learning so many trades while still balancing school and dance classes. She is obviously a go-getter and mature for her age. They have a wonderful loving relationship that transcends dad/stepdaughter. He brings some really unusual projects to the screen that makes this 'building' show unique. Can't wait to see more!

  • "Perfect change of pace from house renovations. Cappy and Sprout are so positive and content. Their hometown must be an amazing place. Cappy allowing her to be a kid is so impressive. Gives her the freedom to become her own person but with responsibilities. Not to mention her nose is not in social media all the time. Good on you Cappy. You deserve your "toys" Much luck and good wishes to this family. Will continue to watch."
